Purpose:
To present the Rights of Rivers Charter, co-developed with Love Our Ouse and partners since the related Motion was approved at Full Council in February 2023.
Decision:
To support the principles within the Rights of Rivers Charter, co-developed with Love Our Ouse and partners.
Reasons for the decision:
Lewes District Council has worked to protect the River Ouse, improve water quality and restore wetlands in partnership with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust (OART) and others since 2017. Supporting the Rights of Rivers Charter honours the spirit of the motion of Full Council in February 2023.
Alternative options considered:
There is environmental protection legislation and a regulatory framework in place which is arguably fit for purpose.
