STOP NEW BUILDINGS AT NEWHAVEN MARINA
If allowed, this construction project will:
Block all public views of Newhaven Harbour from the Co-Op Store in
Fort Road all the way to the Narrows at the Harbour Entrance.
Cause even more congestion at the busy cross-roads of Fort Road,
Gibbon Road, Court Farm Road and the West Quay road.
Shrink the picturesque Marina area by filling-in part of the water
basin with landfill to create more building space.
Destroy one of the few scenic areas left in Newhaven, which has
already been subjected to numerous intensive building projects on
both sides of the river.
Make it less attractive for tourists to drive and walk to Newhaven
Beach, and to access Newhaven Fort, and to enjoy the Recreation
Area.
Add even more traffic to Fort Road, originally designed as a
residential road, which serves as the main access route to the town
centre and to the A259 from Gibbon Road, Court Farm Road, the West
Quay road, the Fort Recreation Area, the Marina, and the
Beach.
Fort Road is already overwhelmed with traffic. The idea of adding
to this congested situation goes against all good planning
values.
Note: where marinas have been developed in Brighton and Eastbourne,
surrounding building developments have gobbled up the open ground
needed for dry-land boat maintenance, and significantly increased
the cost of such maintenance services. As a result, actual sailing
and water-based activities are disabled in favour of people who
just want to sit and look at boats.
