LOSS OF DISTINCT VILLAGES IDENTITIES: This proposed development will destroy the boundaries between Newick and Chailey, turning the villages into one continuous urban sprawl. These villages, with their centuries-old heritage, have always maintained their unique and distinct characters. Fusing them would be a grave injustice to their history and the memories of generations that have called them home.
HARM TO RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE: The beauty of our narrow rural country roads, especially Oxbottom Lane and Cinder Hill, would be seriously compromised. These roads were never intended for heavy vehicular traffic, and the influx of an additional 50+ cars, as projected from this development, would not only wear down their unique character but also pose safety concerns.
INCREASED TRAFFIC AND SAFETY CONCERNS: The tiny junction of Oxbottom Lane to the busy A272 would face dangerously heightened traffic loads, making it even more hazardous for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. We fear that accidents will become more frequent, risking the lives of our community members.
STRAIN ON OUR PUBLIC SERVICES: Our schools and healthcare services, particularly the local doctors, are already straining at the seams. This proposed development would place additional demands on these services, jeopardising the quality of education for our children and potentially extending waiting times and reducing the availability of medical care for all existing Chailey and Newick residents.
In light of the above concerns, we implore you to consider the long-term implications of this proposed housing development on this green field land. We believe that its approval would damage the unique village characters of Newick and Chailey.
We respectfully ask the Inspector to reject this proposed housing development and protect the distinct identities of Newick and Chailey for present and future generations. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We trust that you will make a decision that honours the voices and concerns of local people and our community.
