We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the recent decision made by the Lewes District Council to approve the establishment of a food waste facility adjacent to a residential area and children's play area.
On Wednesday, 17th April 2024, the Lewes District Council approved plans for a food waste facility with parking and charging bays for 16 collection vehicles. This facility is set to process food waste from across the district. However, the decision was made without adequate consideration of the concerns raised by local residents.
Key points of concern include:
1. Lack of transparency: Many nearby residents were not
adequately notified of the proposal, and numerous objections were
not given due consideration.
2. Insufficient detail: The plan lacks essential details regarding
noise levels, pest control, traffic impact, and odour emissions.
Planning officers were unable to provide satisfactory answers to
these concerns during the meeting.
3. Inappropriate location: The proposed facility is adjacent to a
residential area and children's play area, making it unsuitable for
such an operation.
We believe that the decision to approve the food waste facility should be appealed. The concerns of local residents must be addressed, and further investigation is needed to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
We urge the Lewes District Council to reconsider their decision.
